Astoria Community Unit School District 1 Board of Education met January 18.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

The Board meeting was called to order at 7:00pm.

Members present: Adkins, Bollinger, Briney, Egleton, Musson, Shaw

Members absent: Administrators present:Supt. / HS Principal Don Willett

Community members present:Steve Kelly, Catharine Reavley, Jennifer Wherley, John Ragle and Jodie Ragle.

The meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Thank you from United Methodist Church was added to the agenda.

Motion by Bollinger, seconded by Musson to approve the consent agenda items (minutes, bills, payroll). Adkins, Bollinger, Briney, Egleton, Musson and Shaw voted aye. Motion passed.

John Ragle was introduced as Student of the Month.

There were no old business items.

The Principal report from Mr. Crouse included:

•7th grade Regional is this weekend. We are seeded 5th. The volleyball teams are off to a good start with 2nd place wins at Rushville Tournament.

•D & F slips go out February 3rd.

•Mr. Crouse will be attending a conference on “Practical Strategies for improving the behavior of attention-seeking, manipulative, and challenging students” which he will be presenting to staff at the next SIP day.

•Patty Wiegers with the Fulton Co. Farm Bureau will be in at lunch to give elementary students various vegetable samples.

•Ms. Logan held a successful cheer clinic for our future cheerleaders.

The Principal/Superintendent Report from Mr. Willett included:

•Continuing to watch Springfield and the new legislative session. They are continuing to work on a school funding formula. Mr. Willett will be attending a meeting next Wednesday in Springfield for get the latest.

•The district wide Curriculum Committee has met twice this month and will continue meeting bi-monthly. We are working together for a plan to infuse technology when delivering curriculum.

•The school received $65,000 from the State, which was the remainder they owed us last year.

•Still have not received and information on the kitchen grant. Should have response by next meeting.

The District mower is 8 years old. Looking at trade in and a government discount for the replacement. Mr. Willett would like to add to the budget next year.

One of the used buses we are looking to dispose of will be put up for closed bid.

SB550 has passed. The school water will be tested for lead by the end of the year.

The School is looking at improving our insurance costs and coverage by applying with the CIE group. Mr. Willett will be meeting with the plan administrator to discuss options.

Motion by Adkins seconded by Bollinger to go into closed session at 7:21 p.m. for the following purpose:

•Appointments, employment, compensation, discipline, performance or dismissal of specific employees;

•Student disciplinary cases

Adkins, Bollinger, Briney, Egleton, Musson and Shaw voted aye. Motion passed.

Motion by Musson, seconded by Adkins to leave closed session at 7:54 p.m. Adkins, Bollinger, Briney, Egleton, Musson and Shaw voted aye. Motion passed.

Motion by Egleton, seconded by Shaw to approve the minutes of the closed session. Adkins, Bollinger, Briney, Egleton, Musson and Shaw voted aye. Motion passed.

Motion by Adkins, seconded by Shaw to approve maternity leave for employee 12017. Adkins, Bollinger, Briney, Egleton, Musson and Shaw voted aye. Motion passed.

Motion by Egleton, seconded by Musson to accept, with regret, the resignation with intent to retire of Patty VanVoorhis. Adkins, Bollinger, Briney, Egleton, Musson and Shaw voted aye. Motion passed.

Board next meeting date, Wednesday, February 15, 2017.

Motion by Musson, seconded by Bollinger to adjourn the meeting at 7:59 p.m. Adkins, Bollinger, Briney, Egleton, Musson and Shaw voted aye. Motion passed.
