Illini West High School District 307 Board of Education met March 15.

Here is the minutes as provided by the board:

1) Call to order by Board President

The Regular Meeting of the Illini West High School District 307 of Hancock County, IL was called to

order by Tom Holtsclaw, Board President at 7:00 p.m.

2) Roll call:

(1) Tracey Anders—Absent       (5) Shannon Pence

(2) Beth Pence                         (6) Darrell Sutton—Absent

(3) John Huston

3) Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all in attendance.

4) Motion by Whitaker, second by Shannon Pence to approve the Regular Meeting Minutes of February

15, 2017 and Executive Session Minutes of February 15, 2017. Roll Call: Shannon Pence/yes;

Huston/yes; Whitaker/yes; Beth Pence/yes; Holtsclaw/yes; Sutton/absent; Anders/absent. Motion

carried.

5) Motion by Whitaker, second by Beth Pence to approve the payment of bills. Roll Call:

Sutton/absent; Anders/absent; Shannon Pence/yes; Whitaker/yes; Holtsclaw/yes; Beth Pence /yes;

Huston/yes. Motion carried.

6) Motion by Shannon Pence, second by Whitaker to approve the agenda as presented. Roll Call:

Pence/yes. Motion carried.

8) Reports:

a. Maintenance: Steve Wood presented summer project proposals. Will post positions for

summer help.

b. Principal: Mr. Schneider presented the 2017-2018 Course Catalog and School Improvement

Plan for 2017-2018.

c. Superintendent: Mrs. Schilson presented that Coach Lafferty will be inducted to the Hall of

Fame. Coach Surprenant was nominated for coach of the year. The state will not meet the

financial obligations. Seat belts on school buses is a possibility for the future.

a. School Improvement Plan-Discussed

b. Motion by Shannon Pence, second by Whitaker to approve the Course Catalog. Roll Call:

c. Summer Projects-Discussed and moving forward with summer help plans.

11) Motion by Whitaker, second by Beth Pence to leave regular session for the purpose of entering into

Executive Session at 8:08 p.m. to discuss:

a. The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of

specific employees of the public body or legal counsel for the public body, including

hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the public body or

against legal counsel for the public body to determine its validity. 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(1)

b. The purchase or lease of real property for the use of the public body, including meetings

held for the purpose of discussing whether a particular parcel should be acquired. 5ILCS

120/2 (c) (5).

Pence/yes; Whitaker/yes; Huston/yes. Motion carried.

12) Action

a. Motion by Shannon Pence, second by Whitaker to approve resignation of Dawn Hellyer as

Principal’s Secretary. Roll Call: Anders/absent; Shannon Pence/yes; Sutton/absent;

Holtsclaw/yes; Huston/yes; Whitaker/yes; Beth Pence/yes. Motion carried.

b. Motion by Whitaker, second by Beth Pence to approve the non-renewal of Contract of

Huffman and Honnold. Roll Call: Beth Pence/yes; Whitaker/yes; Anders/absent; Shannon

Pence/yes; Sutton/absent; Holtsclaw/yes; Huston/yes. Motion carried.

c. Motion by Beth Pence, second by Shannon Pence to approve Dakota Flesner as the Head

Volleyball Coach for 2017-2018. Roll Call: Anders/absent; Shannon Pence/yes;

Sutton/absent; Holtsclaw/yes; Huston/yes; Whitaker/yes; Beth Pence/yes. Motion carried.
