Graduates earn 2,732 degrees, certificates from Western Illinois University

About 15.2 percent of the 2,732 degrees and certificates handed out by the Western Illinois University in 2016-17 were to students in Homeland Security, Law Enforcement, Firefighting and Related Protective Services programs, making them the most popular programs that year, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

The agency's National Center for Education Statistics shows the public institution in Macomb conferred 387 bachelor's degrees and 16 master's degrees in Homeland Security, Law Enforcement, Firefighting and Related Protective Services programs.

But the single most popular program was for a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement Administration. Data shows the school gave out 364 bachelor's degrees in Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement Administration, followed by 194 bachelor's degrees in Liberal Arts and Sciences, General Studies and Humanities, Other and 110 bachelor's degrees in Agriculture, General.

The university enrolled 10,373 students for 2016-17, including 8,543 in undergraduate programs and 1,830 in graduate programs.
