City of Pittsfield City Council met June 19.

Here is the minutes provided by the Council:

The regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Pittsfield, Pike County, Illinois, was held on Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was held at the City Council room at 215 North Monroe Street. The purpose of the meeting was to transact any business legally brought before it. The following officers were present: Mayor John Hayden, City Clerk Cindy Prentice, and Aldermen Kevin Ketchum, Ed Knight, Paul Lennon, Robert Ritchart, Robert Wilson and Robert Wood.

Absent: Aldermen Bill Scheiwe and Kevin Wombles.

Mayor Hayden presided.

Alderman Ketchum moved to approve the minutes of the last regular Council meeting.

Alderman Knight seconded the motion.

The motion carried.

Alderman Ketchum moved to approve the Treasurer’s Monthly Report for the month of May 2018.

Alderman Ritchart moved to approve the variance for Tammy Lynn Brewer, owner of the property located at 231 North Madison Street in Pittsfield, to construct an addition which will leave a rear yard of eighteen feet (18’) instead of the required twenty feet (20’). The comments from the Pike Press were in regard to nuisances and not the variance.

Alderman Lennon seconded the motion.

Alderman Ritchart moved to approve the Glow Run on July 27, 2018 at 8:30 p.m., which will be moved from their usual route in town to the cross-country trail at Pittsfield Lake.

Alderman Lennon moved to approve the Lion’s Club Porker Poker Run for Diabetes Awareness on

July 14, 2018, at 9:00 a.m. once a route is approved by Police Chief Kenny Yelliott.

Alderman Ketchum moved to approve Ordinance No. 1605, An Ordinance Amending Chapter 30 of the Code of Ordinances for the City of Pittsfield, Pike County, Illinois, on its second reading (changes City Council meetings to 6:00 p.m. year-round).

Alderman Knight seconded the motion.

Alderman Wood moved to approve Ordinance No. 1606, An Ordinance Abating the Tax Heretofore Levied for the year 2018 to Pay the Debt Service on $600,000 General Obligation Bonds (Alternate Revenue Source), Series 2016, of the City of Pittsfield, Pike County, Illinois, on its first reading.

Alderman Ketchum seconded the motion.

Alderman Ritchart moved to approve Ordinance No. 1607, An Ordinance Abating the Tax Heretofore Levied for the Year 2018 to Pay the Debt Service on $270,000 General Obligation Bonds (Sewerage System Alternate Revenue Source), Series 1999, of the City of Pittsfield, Pike County, Illinois, on its first reading.

Alderman Ketchum seconded the motion.

Alderman Knight moved to approve Payment Resolution No. 9 (Final) for the Fire Department Loan in the amount of $15,505.92.

Alderman Wood moved to authorize Mayor Hayden to sign the Wastewater Plant Storm Water NPDES Regulation Permit application.

Alderman Ritchart moved to approve the Finance Committee Report and the Clerk be directed to issue the claims thereon.

Mayor Hayden said he spoke with Matt Henry and Mr. Henry said the bleachers installed at the girls’ softball field and paid for with funds from the Ellen Barnes Estate are working out well, they will be hosting a district tournament at the field and a small plaque will be placed in honor of Ellen Barnes.

The new scoreboards are up at the lake and seem to be working well.

Young Eagle Day will be held at the Pittsfield Penstone Municipal Airport on July 14, 2018, where airplane rides will be offered for kids.

Mayor Hayden said Alderman Wood will be in charge of the quarterly safety meetings as recommended by our risk management company. He asked Gas & Water Foreman Bruce McKee and Street and Alley Foreman Jeff Griggs for recommendations for someone from each of their departments to serve on the committee. Safety meetings will begin in July 2018 and will be held during working hours (most likely 9:00 a.m.).

Alderman Ritchart asked that Street & Alley Foreman Jeff Griggs get the handicapped parking space painted by Illini Hospital Clinic.

Chief Kenny Yelliott reported Officer Greening’s wife could have their baby any day now. He also asked the press to stress that when stoplights are not functioning, the intersection is treated as a four-way stop.

Alderman Knight moved to adjourn this meeting at 7:22 p.m.
