Schuyler Industry Community Unit School District 5 students suspended 70 times in a single school year

Schuyler Industry Community Unit School District 5 reported 70 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 70 students during the year. That equates to 6.2 percent of the 1,126 students enrolled.

Of the 46 in-school suspensions, including 33 elementary or middle schoolers and 13 high schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 38 incidents. There were four incidents of tobacco. For 35 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 24 out-of-school suspensions, including 11 elementary or middle schoolers and 13 high schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 15 incidents. There were five incidents of violence without physical injury. For 13 incidents, students were suspended for 3-5 days.
