City of Virginia Council met October 8.

City of Virginia Council met Oct. 8.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

Mayor Brunk opened the regular meeting at 7:03pm. Roll was called French, Anderson, Bowman, Wulf, and Cox were all present. Alderman Behrends was not present. The minutes of the September meeting were presented. Alderman Cox made a motion that the meeting minutes be approved and Alderman Wulf seconded. Motion carried unanimously. The monthly treasurer’s report was in the council’s monthly packet, the council reviewed. The video gaming revenue for the month of September was $3503.47. The sales tax figures for the month of September were $11920.15. There was no transfer of funds this month. Monthly bills were presented. Alderman Wulf made a motion and Alderman Cox seconded that the bills be paid as presented. Motion carried unanimously. Treasurer Barrett stated that the budget is on track. There was a meeting with Illinois Rural Water and it went well.

Guests: Vickie Bell, Josh Ayres, Emily Ayres, Nathan Ayres, Harry Long, Steve Clark, Carolyn Defenbaugh

Public Comment:

Vickie Bell:

Vickie Bell stated there was a fundraiser event on October 17th from 6pm-830pm at Dr. Ugs for the Virginia Beautification Committee. Mrs. Bell said they were needing servers for the event. The purpose of the event was to raise money for the gazebo on the square.

Students of the month:

Elementary: Nathan Ayres

Public Works (McClure): McClure stated they are currently waiting on estimates to repair the alley behind Dr. Ugs. City wide is October 15th-21st, pick up will begin on October 22nd.

Police Chief (Helmich): N/A

Fire Chief (Reynolds): Chief Reynolds stated that the fish fry was a success.

Board Reports

Zoning (Merriman): nothing to report at this time.

Park (Cox): the last of the games are over for this year, the park is being winterized. Log Cabin days are coming up

Library: nothing to report at this time

Economic Development (Anderson): nothing to report at this time

Cemetery (Behrends): nothing to report at this time

Attorney’s Report: $870 for animal running at large, $150 for attorneys fee

Aldermanic Reports

Cox: stated he had nothing to report other than thanked Randy for his work.

Behrends: not present

Wulf: stated that ATV’s/motorcycles are not legal to be driving around and that Trunk or Treat is on October 31st from 530-7pm

Bowman: thanked Randy for his work

Anderson: thanked Randy for his work

French: stated that police presence in ward 3 is good and getting better, thanked Randy for his work

Clerks Report: not present

Mayor’s Report: Ameren/IDOT have been driving too fast in the school zone, we need to have better police coverage in the school zone

Unfinished Business:

No unfinished business at this time

New Business:

No new business at this time

At 7:28pm Alderman Cox made a motion to adjourn into Executive Session and Alderman Bowman seconded. Motion carried unanimously.

At 8:22pm the council returned back from Executive Session to Public Session.

Mayor Brunk stated that Chief Helmich is currently on unpaid medical leave.

At 8:27pm, Alderman Wulf made a motion to adjourn the meeting, Alderman Cox seconded. Motion carries unanimously.
