Illinois state Rep. C.D. Davidsmeyer (R-Jacksonville) recently attended his hometown’s chili cook-off and left with a full stomach.

“I overate lunch … at the Jacksonville Chili Cook off, but I had a good time seeing friends and supporting the Jacksonville Dreams Center Foundation,” the 41-year-old lawmaker wrote on his Facebook page.

The Jacksonville Bar Association Young Lawyers Section has been hosting the event for 11 years. The purpose of the cook-off is “to bring the legal community together for an afternoon of live music and delicious competition,” according to the group’s website.

Before sampling some of the area’s best chili, Davidsmeyer was a guest of the Greene County Republican Party’s annual Lincoln Day Dinner, which he said was a great night.

“I always enjoy seeing so many friends and discussing the crazy things going on in Springfield,” Davidsmeyer said on Facebook.
