MEMORIAL HOSPITAL - CARTHAGE IL: Hancock County Sees 5th Positive Case Of COVID-19

Coronapositive

Memorial Hospital - Carthage IL issued the following announcement on April 24.

The Hancock County Health Department (HCHD) and Memorial Hospital (MH) have received official notice of an additional laboratory-confirmed positive case of COVID-19 in a Hancock County resident. The male individual is in his 80’s to 90’s and is recovering at home. This case does not appear to be related to other positive cases identified in Hancock County. The Hancock County Health Department will do contact tracing to investigate all possible exposures.

In most cases, COVID-19 causes mild symptoms of fever, cough, and body aches. Some experience shortness of breath. Many have no symptoms at all. Older adults and those with chronic health problems are at greater risk of developing severe illness which can require hospitalization.

The Illinois Department of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control are now recommending wearing masks in public. If you must leave home wear a mask or a cloth covering. It will help protect others. In addition, the HCHD and MH would like to remind the county to take all safety precautions seriously; follow the stay at home mandate with the exception of essential needs. Also if you are sick stay home, wash your hands often, cover your cough and sneezes, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands, clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces, and practice social distancing.

If you have any signs or symptoms such as fever, coughing or shortness of breath, call the Illness Respiratory Clinic at 217-357-0617 to be screened. Do not walk in.
