Chicago (30,393 cases) and Cook County (21,281 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 1,289, while Cook County recorded 975 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 416,331, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 50 to 59, with 14,115 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 36,349 were male and 37,990 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 1,882, while female deaths stood at 1,460.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 1,432 Hispanics, 142 Asians, 1,432 whites, 1,090 African-Americans, and 146 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
