Chicago (37,434 cases) and Cook County (26,256 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 1,681, while Cook County recorded 1,208 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 603,241, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 40 to 49, with 17,557 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 45,914 were male and 48,462 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 2,346, while female deaths stood at 1,880.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 1,806 Hispanics, 196 Asians, 1,806 whites, 1,335 African-Americans, and 140 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
