Chicago (39,755 cases) and Cook County (27,796 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 1,814, while Cook County recorded 1,300 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 672,020, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 40 to 49, with 18,579 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 48,821 were male and 51,690 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 2,560, while female deaths stood at 2,042.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 1,971 Hispanics, 220 Asians, 1,971 whites, 1,406 African-Americans, and 161 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
