Chicago (38,839 cases) and Cook County (27,374 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 1,787, while Cook County recorded 1,287 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 642,713, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 40 to 49, with 18,226 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 47,798 were male and 50,489 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 2,512, while female deaths stood at 2,006.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 1,928 Hispanics, 215 Asians, 1,928 whites, 1,394 African-Americans, and 160 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
