Macomb's Ripple II initiative has proved to be a resounding success after more than $50,000 was spent at 211 business locations in Macomb, which is desperately needed revenue amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Downtown Macomb said in a Facebook post.
"We are so happy to be able to support our businesses by offering this incentive to help our local economy,” City Administrator Scott Coker said in the Facebook post. "Thank you to all the folks that took advantage of this program, supporting our businesses, and keeping it local."
The program began on Nov. 16 and ran through Jan 4. Local residents were encouraged to spend $200 at participating locations that were deemed non-essential, such as restaurants and local businesses.
In total, $54,279 was spent by consumers to offset the lockdowns put in place by the Illinois Governor's Office, with $10,550 given back to the Chamber of Commerce in the form of gift certificates via the 211 participants.
