After the state auditor general stated his opposition to House Bill 2369, Rep. Dan Swanson (R-Woodhull) asked bill sponsor Rep. Stephanie Kifowit (D-Oswego) how she planned to clear up that opposition.
House Bill 2369 amends the Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs Act to allow department personnel to assist the Illinois Joining Forces Foundation. It also requires the foundation's audit to be included in the department's audit.
"(I have) a couple questions on this," Swanson said during Tuesday's House Veterans' Affairs Committee. "On our analysis, it talks about the auditor general having some concerns about the two types of (interactions) that would be conducted between the IDVA and IJF. Is that something you're working through on the amendment?"
Kifowit said the amendment would clear up the opposition.
"Yes, absolutely. As I said, due to the filing deadline, I had thought that we had filed the amendment that was drafted from the 101st General Assembly, but it was never filed and it turned out they just filed the underlying bill. So, in lieu of the deadline, we are opting to amend it. So yes, that is one of the things that we are adjusting in the amendment."
Swanson confirmed with Kifowit that the amendment would remove the auditor general's opposition.
The bill passed favorably out of the committee and will now head to the House floor for debate.
