Brown County Community Unit School District No. 1 Board met Jan. 24.

The regular meeting of the Board of Education was held at 6:00 p.m. in the Brown County High School band room. The meeting was called to order by Heath Fullerton. The minutes were recorded by McKenzie Taute.

Visitors:
Mr. Ebbing recognized Brown County Middle School student of the month, Sam Miller. Ebbing said Miller was nominated by Mrs. Prather for his dedication to academics, hard work and politeness.
Mrs. Craven recognized Brown County High School student of the month, Daniel Luthy. Craven said Luthy was nominated by Mr. Garrett for his perseverance this school year and his ability to work well with classmates.

Correspondence: Fullerton thanked the Brown County State Bank for their monthly affinity card donation in the amount of $574.31.
Discussion Items:
Solar Panels: Eberle addressed the board regarding a recent solar proposal from Future Green. The board discussed concerns with the placement of the potential panels. Eberle explained that Future Green was willing to give a presentation to explain the benefits of solar. The board was in agreement to move forward with the presentation by Future Green at a future meeting.
High School HVAC Update/ Storm Damage Update: Eberle discussed the status of insurance claims from the July 2021 hailstorm. The district is looking to receive approximately 2.2 million dollars for complete roof replacements at the high school/middle school campus. Eberle explained that part of the ESSER III grant was set aside to add a new HVAC system to the high school gym. The Building and Grounds Committee met to discuss options and unit sizing for the proposed system. Eberle explained that the HVAC unit cannot be installed until the roof is replaced, as the unit will be mounted to the roof.
Biggest Loser: Eberle explained to the board that 31 staff members are participating in the Biggest Loser competition. In the first 2 weeks participants have lost a combined 177 pounds.
Budget Update: Eberle updated the board on the current budget status. Eberle explained that the district is set to end the month of January with having spent approximately 58% of its budgeted dollars for the year. Eberle went on to say that the district is right on target for expenses and slightly ahead in revenue for the current fiscal year.
Tax Payment Update: Eberle explained that the district has received all levied tax dollars from the county, including an additional $7,195.55.
Eberle explained that the Transportation Committee met to discuss the purchase of five new buses. Eberle went on to say that District Mechanic, Brian Roberts, worked to update the specifications of each bus to fit the district’s needs. The board decided to move forward with the purchase of two sixty-five passenger and three fifty-four passenger buses.
