The Illinois College Lady Blues earned two wins against Spalding University 3-0 and Olivet College 3-1 in the first day of the Olivet/Albion Invitational. This advances the team to 3-8 overall this season.
GAME 1- Illinois College 3, Spalding University 0
IC was able to start the tournament off strong. Paige Knuffman led the team with 13 kills in the match. Laura Kaiser and Macie Beer followed with eight kills each. Morgan Burr led the team with 20 assists. Ella Middleton was the standout on defense with 13 digs.
The Lady Blues won the first two sets 25-19, 25-23. IC pulled away late in the third set to claim the victory on a kill by Knuffman and an assist by Summer Brandis.
GAME 2- Illinois College 3, Olivet College 1
The Lady Blues looked to carry the momentum into their second match of the day. Lo Miles was the team's leader with 12 kills. Burr led the team with 20 assists and Jen Humbolt reached double figures in digs with 12.
After falling in the first set 16-25, the Lady Blues were able to rally to claim the next three sets to complete the sweep on the day. Nevaeh Gould recorded a service ace to score the final point in the third set to give IC the win 25-14.
The team will travel to compete at Albion College on the second day of the tournament. IC will face Albion at 10:00 AM and Kalamazoo at 2:00 PM.
