McDonough County Board Law & Legal Committee met June 5.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

The Law & Legal Committee held its monthly meeting on Monday, June 5, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was held at the McDonough County Courthouse, Courtroom 202. Committee Members present included Committee Chair Joe Erlandson, Vice Chair Ken Durkin, Eric Blakeley, Eric Chapman, Letha Clark, Travis Hiel, Michael Kirby, and Terra Litchfield. Other persons in attendance were Patrick Stout, Dave Schaab, Ric Smart, Deborah Cousins, County Chair Scott Schwerer, and Deputy Clerk Stacey Alexander. 

Chair Erlandson called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Review & Approve May 1, 2023 Minutes

Member Durkin moved with a second by Member Chapman to approve the minutes as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.

Waste Management Update

Dave Schaab gave the report.

Tri-County Recycling

No report.

Veteran’s Assistance and Van Report

Ric Smart gave the report. Eleven Veterans were given assistance in May. Total assistance amounted to $2,622.07.

Sheriff’s Report

Reports received and filed.

Assessor’s Office Update

Assessor Deborah Cousins gave the report.

CO2 Pipeline Update

Chair Erlandson gave a brief update.

Approve Enterprise Zone Amendment

Attorney Lisa Scalf explained the Amendment to the Committee.

Member Durkin moved with a second by Member Litchfield to Approve Enterprise Zone Amendment. Motion carried on a voice vote.

Claims Review and Approval

Member Blakeley moved with a second by Member Litchfield to approve the claims as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.

Other

Steve Hess spoke about CO2 pipeline updates.

Public Comment

None.

County Board Chair Comments

County Chair Schwerer informed the Committee that the County Treasurer has sent out the first distribution of taxes.

Committee Chair Erlandson expressed his concerns about the Federal Government being able to take back the ARPA funding.

Member Chapman moved with a second by Member Blakeley to adjourn the meeting at 7:31 p.m. Motion carried on a voice vote.
