State Rep. C.D. Davidsmeyer (R-Murrayville) responded critically to Governor Pritzker's $52.7 billion budget proposal for Illinois, labeling it as the largest spending proposal in state history. Davidsmeyer expressed his concerns, stating, “The Governor continues to make more and more new promises for brand new spending.” He highlighted the neglect towards the developmentally disabled in the state, emphasizing, “the state is neglecting the developmentally disabled who have been waiting on the PUNS list to receive services for almost as many years.”
Davidsmeyer also addressed the issue of illegal immigration, criticizing Gov. Pritzker's stance on the matter. He pointed out, “The idea that a new law is needed to close our borders is completely negated by the fact the prior president had policies that all but stopped illegal immigration.” The representative further highlighted the financial impact of the Governor's sanctuary state policies on Illinois taxpayers, stating, “The Governor’s sanctuary state policies have cost Illinois taxpayers over $2 billion, which continues to grow.”
Additionally, Davidsmeyer raised concerns about the financial implications of the proposed budget, questioning, “how is Pritzker going to pay for all this new spending? He’s going to raise taxes by another billion dollars!” He criticized the Governor's approach, accusing him of using Illinois taxpayers to fund his political ambitions and drawing comparisons to California.
In contrast to Gov. Pritzker's budget proposal, Rep. Davidsmeyer and his House Republican colleagues advocate for a balanced budget without tax hikes. They remain committed to fighting for responsible state spending that prioritizes taxpayers and the most vulnerable citizens in Illinois.
