Western Illinois women's soccer defeated by Green Bay

The Western Illinois University women's soccer team faced a 5-0 defeat against Green Bay in a nonconference match held in Monmouth on Thursday. The Leathernecks, now holding a record of 0-4, will next compete on Sunday when they host Illinois State at 1 p.m.

Western Illinois initially controlled possession, but Green Bay capitalized on a counterattack to score the first goal just 3:34 into the game.

For the next 20 minutes, both teams played evenly until Green Bay added two more goals in the 23rd minute, extending their lead to 3-0. The Phoenix further solidified their victory with two additional goals in the second half.

Kayla Turner led Western Illinois' offense with three shots, two of which were on target. Overall, Western Illinois recorded eight shots, six on goal. Goalie Ariel Bernard made seven saves out of eleven shots on goal.
