Western Illinois women’s tennis wins three titles at OVC Individual Championships

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Western Illinois women's tennis program demonstrated strong performance at the Ohio Valley Conference Individual Tournament this weekend, signaling potential success for the upcoming Spring 2025 season.

Western Illinois secured multiple singles titles and achieved top placements in the tournament held in Evansville on Saturday and Sunday.

In the No. 6 singles flight, Mana Fawcett claimed one of the Leathernecks' singles titles. After a first-round bye, Fawcett advanced to the title match with a 6-2, 6-2 victory. In the finals, she secured the championship by winning 7-6 (4), 6-1.

Richardlyne Francois also won a championship in the No. 4 singles flight. Francois triumphed in her first-round match with a score of 6-1, 6-2 and continued her winning streak with a semifinal victory of 6-4, 6-3. She clinched another title for WIU by winning the final match 6-4, 6-0.

Chloe Routier earned WIU's third title in No. 3 singles. Routier won her initial match with a score of 6-2, 6-1 and overcame her semifinal opponent with scores of 2-6, 6-3, and 10-8. In the finals, she prevailed in straight sets with scores of 6-3, 6-3.

No other team achieved three singles championships.

In the No. 1 singles flight, Paige Grice finished as runner-up after winning her semifinal match with scores of 6-4 and an opponent retirement at 3-0 before losing in the final.

Lara Rossetto Diniz de Souza also performed well in No. 2 singles by winning her first match with scores of 0-6,7 -76-,and -107-, but was defeated in the semifinals and placed fourth after dropping her third-place match with scores of -63-and -75
