Western Illinois University's women's soccer team is set to host two matches during the third week of Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) play. The Leathernecks will face Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) on Thursday, October 3, at 3 PM and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock on Sunday, October 6, at 1 PM. Both matches will take place at John MacKenzie Alumni Field in Macomb, Illinois.

SIUE has had a challenging season so far with a record of 1-6-3 and is yet to secure a win in conference play. However, their defense remains strong under the leadership of graduate student Matea Diekema, who was named OVC Defensive Player of the Year in both 2022 and 2023. SIUE's defense has allowed one goal or less in all four matches where they have achieved results.

Little Rock currently leads the OVC standings with a record of 5-5-2. They have secured victories against Morehead State and Tennessee Tech. Sophomore goalkeeper Peyton Urban has been instrumental for Little Rock, achieving five shutouts this season.

Western Illinois aims to build on their recent success after securing their first win of the season against Southeast Missouri State with a scoreline of two-one. This victory earned them three points and moved them into a tie for seventh place in the conference standings.

The Leathernecks return with a roster that includes 23 players from last year's squad. Key returners include Isabel Navas Rodriguez, Sydnee Sagal, Hana Daoudi, and Alanna Pennington. Senior Kayla Turner is highlighted as a player to watch after contributing significantly in previous seasons.

The team also welcomes seven new players for the current season. Among these newcomers are junior transfer forwards Callie McMurtrey, Autumn Wilson, and Landry McCoid. Four freshmen have joined as well: Ariel Bernard, Hilary Halpin, Aofie Boulter, and Ava Bell.
