Western Illinois University's women's soccer team faced SIUE on Thursday, following their first win of the season against Southeast Missouri State. The match ended in a 1-1 draw at John MacKenzie Alumni Field.

The game began with SIUE earning three early corner kicks, but Western Illinois' defense managed to keep the score level. Claire Brown had an opportunity in the 13th minute, but her shot missed wide. Around the 20th minute, Western's defense made crucial blocks, preventing three shots within two minutes.

In the 37th minute, Callie McMurtrey and Landry McCoid combined for a breakaway play that resulted in McCoid scoring from about 20 yards out, giving Western Illinois a lead before halftime. Autumn Wilson's goal-line clearance preserved this advantage going into the break.

The second half started slowly until SIUE intensified their attack with five corners between the 54th and 61st minutes. Leatherneck goalkeeper Ariel Bernard made a significant save during this period. However, SIUE equalized in the 78th minute on their 16th corner kick attempt.

Despite being outshot 23-8 and losing the corner battle 17-2, Western Illinois held on for a draw. They remain in sixth place in the OVC standings as they prepare to host Little Rock on Sunday at John MacKenzie Alumni Field.
