Western Illinois University's women's soccer team faced a challenging match against Little Rock, who entered the game tied for first place with Lindenwood. Despite a strong defensive performance by WIU, they conceded one goal, which proved to be decisive in the match.
The Leathernecks' defense was solid throughout the game. Rita Moran, Ali Matthews, and Hilary Halpin played the entire 90 minutes in defense, while Rachel Balinao and Hana Daoudi controlled possession on the flanks and initiated attacks for WIU. However, despite maintaining possession for significant periods, Western Illinois struggled to create scoring opportunities.
Midfielder Aofie Boulter attempted several long-distance shots but was unable to find the target. Goalkeeper Ariel Bernard made seven saves during the match but allowed a goal in the 60th minute when Little Rock's forward Candice Kilderry scored from a long ball. Kilderry is currently leading her team with five goals this season.
Little Rock's victory, coupled with SEMO's draw against Lindenwood, places them alone at the top of the standings with ten points from four matches. Meanwhile, WIU is in eighth place with four points as they prepare for an upcoming match against Eastern Illinois in Charleston on Sunday.
