Western Illinois men's golf prepares for Valpo Fall Invitational

Western Illinois University's men's golf team is set to participate in the Valpo Fall Invitational on September 18-19 at Sand Creek Country Club in Chesterton, Indiana. The course is a par 72 and spans 7,082 yards. This tournament will feature three rounds, with the first two rounds scheduled for the opening day and the final round on the second day.

In their previous outing at the ANF Fall Classic hosted by the University of Iowa, Western Illinois finished 11th out of 13 teams with a score of 913 (+49). Baptiste Labeyrie made his debut for WIU, finishing tied for 44th place with an overall score of 227 (+11). Labeyrie's performance included an even-par final round of 72. David Ayala also finished tied for 44th, starting strong but slipping in subsequent rounds.

Mateo Rascon ended his debut tournament tied for 47th place with a total score of 228 (+12), beginning with an even-par round before faltering in later rounds. The team returns six players from last year's roster, including senior David Ayala from Colombia, who was last season's champion at the WIU Invite at TPC Deere Run.

The competition at the Valpo Fall Invitational includes teams from Bradley, Evansville, Green Bay, Detroit Mercy, DePaul, Central Michigan, Chicago State, and host Valparaiso. The starting lineup for Western Illinois features Baptiste Labeyrie as number one, followed by David Ayala, Mateo Rascon, Luke Lofgren, and Bayden Hubacher.
