Western Illinois University's men's golf team is set to begin its season at the ANF Fall Classic in Iowa City, Iowa, on September 5th and 6th. This marks a new chapter for Western Illinois Athletics as it transitions to the Ohio Valley Conference after spending several decades in the Summit League since 1982.
The Leathernecks return six players from last year's roster, with senior David Ayala standing out among them. Ayala, hailing from Colombia, was last season's honors champion, clinching victory at the WIU Invite held at TPC Deere Run.
The ANF Fall Classic will feature a 54-hole tournament format over two days. Teams are scheduled to start teeing off at 8:00 a.m. each day. The competition will include teams from Southern Illinois A and B, Drake, St. Thomas, Northern Iowa (UNI), Wright State, North Dakota State, Green Bay, Iowa State, North Alabama, and Eastern Illinois.
Western Illinois' starting lineup for the event includes Baptiste Labeyrie in the first position, followed by Mateo Rascon, Luke Lofgren, Bayden Hubacher, and David Ayala.
