The Western Illinois cross country team is set to compete again on Friday as they travel to Peoria for the Bradley Intercollegiate at Detweiler Park. The women's race will commence at 5:15 p.m., with the men's event following.
In their previous outing, the Leatherneck women secured victory at the Western Illinois Early Bird meet, overcoming Bradley with a score of 25-31 in a 4K race held at Spring Lake Park. Paulina Wuestefeld was a standout performer for Western Illinois, finishing first in 14 minutes and 49.9 seconds. Aylana Cezar made an impressive debut for the Leathernecks by finishing second in 15:00.2.
For the men, Western Illinois placed second behind Bradley, accumulating 38 points compared to Bradley's winning total of 29. Logan Lommel from Western Illinois claimed victory in the men's 6K event with a time of 19:09.4, while Olin Ortiz finished second overall in 19:19.4.
Following this meet, the Leathernecks will take a two-week break before competing again at the Missouri Gans Creek Classic on September 30.
