The Western Illinois University (WIU) Men's Golf team recently participated in the ASU Spring Classic, securing a 4th place finish among nine competing teams. The event took place on February 18 and 19.
Leading the WIU team was Mateo Rascon, who achieved a top-five finish with a total score of 154 (+10). In the first round, Rascon shot 79 (+7), making three birdies on the back nine, including consecutive birdies on holes 17 and 18. He completed the back nine with an impressive score of 33 (-3). In the second round, Rascon recorded five birdies, four of which were also in the back nine, concluding with a score of 75 (+3).
Nathan Tillman tied for 15th place with a score of 161 (+17). His performance included two pars at the start and a birdie on hole eight after shooting +4 on the previous hole. Tillman added another birdie in the back nine to complete round one at 80 (+8). In round two, he began with par for four holes and finished similarly to his first round at 81 (+9).
Luke Lofgren made an eagle in round one on hole eleven and ended tied for 23rd place with a score of 164 (+20). Bayden Hubacher concluded his tournament performance tied for 15th by shooting five birdies and finishing at 161 (+17).
The WIU Men's Golf team will have a four-week break before their next competition at the Twin Oaks Intercollegiate in Springfield, Missouri.
