Wiu men's golf secures third place at Stampede at the Creek

The Western Illinois University (WIU) Men's Golf team concluded their final spring meet at the Stampede at the Creek, securing a third-place finish. Freshman Mateo Rascon achieved a second-place individual finish, surpassing teammate Luke Lofgren's previous best for the season. Lofgren ended up within the top 20.

Rascon began round one with a par and recorded three birdies on the front nine, finishing with a score of 35 (-1). On the back nine, he had six pars and two birdies, concluding with a total of 71 (-1). In round two, Rascon added an early birdie and an eagle on hole seven but finished with 77 (+5). During round three, he quickly scored his second eagle of the tournament on hole four and completed it with six birdies and seven pars for a score of 66 (-4).

Lofgren's performance included one birdie in round one and eight pars on the back nine to finish at 74 (+2). In round two, after starting with a bogey, he managed to shoot 76 (+4). Round three saw him achieve three birdies on the back nine to end at 73 (+1).

Nathan Tillman concluded his tournament with eight birdies. David Ayala and Bayden Hubacher each had six birdies. Baptiste Labeyrie also recorded six birdies along with an eagle in round three.

The WIU team is set to compete next in Muscle Shoals, Alabama for the Ohio Valley Conference tournament from April 21 to April 24.

- Luke Lofgren: Tied for 16th (+7)

- Nathan Tillman: Tied for 25th (+11)

- Baptiste Labeyrie: Tied for 28th (+12)

- Bayden Hubacher: Finished 36th (+16)

- David Ayala: Finished 45th (+21)
