Western Illinois University's men's golf team is preparing for the upcoming Zach Johnson Invitational, scheduled to take place on September 25-26 in West Des Moines, Iowa. The event will be held at the Glen Oaks Golf Club, a par 71 course spanning 6,950 yards. The tournament format includes three rounds, with the first two rounds on Monday and the final round on Tuesday.
In their previous outing at the Valpo Fall Invitational, the Leathernecks secured an eighth-place finish. Sophomore Luke Lofgren from Rock Island led the team with a tie for 12th place. He performed consistently across all three rounds, finishing strong with a +3 (75) in the final round. Baptiste Labeyrie also made significant contributions to the team's performance, starting off strong with an eagle and several birdies in his initial holes.
The Leathernecks demonstrated their competitive edge by finishing fourth in birdies and third in eagles during their last tournament. As they head into the Zach Johnson Invitational, Lofgren and Labeyrie will be joined by teammates David Ayala, Mateo Rascon, and Drew Hall.
The competition will include teams from Drake, DePaul, Houston Christian, Iowa State, Indian Hills Community College, IUPUI, Loyola Chicago, North Dakota, North Dakota State, South Dakota, St. Thomas University of Northern Iowa.
