The Western Illinois University (WIU) Men's golf team participated in The Big Texan tournament on March 25 and 26, concluding the event in 14th place.
Baptiste Labeyrie was the leading player for WIU, finishing tied for 45th with a score of 225 (+9). During the first round, Labeyrie encountered two bogeys on the front nine and began the back nine with two more bogeys before achieving his first of two birdies. He ended round one with a score of 77 (+5). In the second round, Labeyrie managed only one bogey on the front nine and secured a birdie on hole five. He added two more birdies along with three bogeys on the back nine, completing the round at 73 (+1). In round three, after a +5 start on the front nine, Labeyrie recovered with three birdies on holes 10, 12, and 14. He shot a 33 (-3) from the back nine and finished with a score of 75 (+3).
Nathan Tillman finished tied for 65th place with a total score of 230 (+14). In his first round, Tillman achieved a birdie on hole two and another on hole 12, ending with a score of 77 (+5). Round two saw Tillman make consecutive birdies on holes four and five, adding another birdie on hole eight to finish the front nine at 38 (+2). He started the back nine with another birdie and concluded this round at 78 (+6). In his final round, Tillman completed the front nine at 39 (+3), opened the back nine with a birdie again, and recorded an eagle on hole 12's par five. His final score for this round was also 75 (+3).
David Ayala and Luke Lofgren both made consecutive birdies during their second-round front nines. Bayden Hubacher achieved consecutive birdies in his third round. Lofgren also scored an eagle in his first round on hole four.
The Leathernecks are scheduled to compete next at their home event, the WIU Intercollegiate in Silvis, IL, set for April 5-6.
