The Western Illinois women's tennis team faced two defeats on the road this weekend. The Leathernecks lost to Cincinnati with a score of 7-0 on Friday and were similarly defeated by Bowling Green on Saturday, also with a score of 7-0.

During the match against Cincinnati, Western Illinois struggled in the doubles portion, losing 2-1. The No. 1 doubles team of Paige Grice and Lara Rossetto Diniz de Souza secured the only win for Western Illinois, achieving a 6-1 victory.

In singles competition, Cincinnati won all matches in straight sets.

On Saturday at Bowling Green, the Leathernecks were unable to secure any wins in the three doubles matches, losing the point. In singles play, Bowling Green continued their dominance by sweeping all matches against Western Illinois.

Lara Rossetto Diniz de Souza competed in No. 1 singles and initially took the first set but was unable to maintain her lead in the subsequent sets. Agatha Carbonell at No. 4 singles also won her first set (6-2) but could not clinch a victory overall. Maria Rybka at No. 5 singles came close as well, winning her first set 7-5 before falling in both the second set and an intense tiebreaker (11-9) in the third.

Western Illinois will return to action with two matches scheduled in two weeks' time. They will visit St. Thomas on February 9 for a match starting at 2 p.m., followed by a game against Northern Iowa Panthers on February 10 at 1 p.m.
