Anna-Evelina Trush secured a singles victory for Western Illinois University, but the team ultimately lost to Eastern Illinois University with a score of 6-1 on Friday afternoon.
Trush, competing at No. 6 singles, improved her record to 5-9 by winning in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. Her five singles victories lead the team this season. Lara Rossetto Diniz de Souza played at No. 1 singles and came close to securing a three-set win. She won the first set 7-6 (7-2) but then lost the subsequent sets 6-4 and 1-0 (10-7).
In doubles competition, Eastern Illinois swept all three matches. The duo of Agatha Carbonell and Maria Rybka nearly claimed a victory at No. 2 doubles but fell short with a score of 7-6 (7-5).
Western Illinois now holds an overall record of 2-12 and is winless in the Ohio Valley Conference with a record of 0-3. Their next match is scheduled for March 30 against Southern Indiana after their upcoming match against South Dakota was canceled.
