Southern Indiana secured an early advantage by winning two of three singles matches to take a 1-0 lead. Agatha Carbonell and Paige Grice from Western Illinois managed to win a doubles match with a score of 6-3.
In singles competition, USI quickly gained momentum by winning two matches, bringing them to a 3-0 lead. However, Carbonell and Grice offered resistance for Western Illinois. Carbonell achieved a straight-set victory at No. 3 singles with scores of 6-2, 6-1, while Grice also triumphed in straight sets at No. 1 singles with scores of 6-4, 6-2.
At No. 2 and No. 4 singles, USI won the first set easily but faced challenges as Anna-Evelina Trush at No. 4 forced a third set after winning the second one. Similarly, Aina Cortina-Pou at No. 2 came back from losing the first set to take the lead in the second set.
Despite their efforts, both Cortina-Pou and Trush were unable to secure victories as their USI opponents held on for wins, concluding the Ohio Valley Conference match with Southern Indiana leading by three points.
Western Illinois will have two weeks off before their next match on Senior Day against Lindenwood on April 12th. They will end their regular season schedule against SIUE the following day.
