After a successful weekend at the PNC Bank Invitational, three Western Illinois University track and field athletes received accolades from the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC). Arnie Grunert, Aliyah Adams, and Jaiden Young were all honored with Athlete of the Week titles.
Aliyah Adams was named Female Field Athlete of the Week after securing first place in both the long jump and triple jump events. Her long jump of 19-02.75 ranks first in the OVC and 58th nationally, while her triple jump set a new personal record. Coach Trey Brokaw commented on her achievements, stating, "Aliyah Adams had an incredible start to her sophomore year."
Jaiden Young earned the title of OVC Freshman of the Week following his second-place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 48.36, which is currently the best in the OVC. He also placed tenth in the 200 meters. Brokaw praised Young's progress: "Jaiden Young has had an awesome freshman campaign; 48.36 so far this indoor season."
Arnie Grunert was recognized as Co-Male Field Athlete of the Week after winning first place in pole vaulting with a height of 17-00.75, setting a new Western Illinois record. Brokaw remarked on Grunert's performance: "Arnie has had a fantastic start to his indoor season."
The Leathernecks are scheduled to compete again at the Ichabod Invitational at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas.
