Leathernecks conclude regular season strong at Iowa State Alumni Open

Western Illinois University's track and field team closed out their regular season at the Iowa State Alumni Open in Ames, Iowa. The Leathernecks showcased strong performances across various events.

Logan Lommel set a new program record in the 1500 meters with a time of 3:47.60, surpassing his previous best of 3:48.31 from last season. On the women's side, Sophia Myers started the meet by securing second place in the 100 hurdles with a time of 14.24.

In the women's 400 meters, Nakeita Kessling finished second at 58.33 seconds, followed closely by Monique Remy in third place at 59.53 seconds. Briza Dure won the women's 100 meters with a time of 12.19, narrowly missing out on entering the program's top ten list. Savannah Harvey was just behind her in second place with a time of 12.26.

Lucas Burmeister took second place in the men's 100 meters, finishing in 11.11 seconds, while Isaac Jones secured another second-place finish for Western Illinois in the men's 800 meters with a time of 1:52.05.

In field events, Arnie Grunert impressed by clearing over 17 feet in pole vaulting once again but fell short of breaking his own program record of 17-4.5 inches.

Aliyah Adams excelled in both track and field events; she claimed victory in the women's long jump on her first attempt with a distance of 19 feet, four inches and finished third in the women's 200 meters at 24.92 seconds.

Colleen Johnson had a standout performance as well by winning the women's pole vault event with a personal-best clearance of 12-2.5 inches, tying her for fifth all-time in program history.

Cage Davison led the men's long jump event with his initial leap measuring at an impressive distance of 23-2.75 inches while freshman Kelsey Hutchins triumphed over competitors to take home first place honors during women’s triple jump reaching up to an astonishingly high point value score –37–four–inches! Nakeita Kessling ended runner-up after jumping heights near those same levels (36 -10½).

Finally Mia Harris claimed top spot within Women’s High Jump competition landing successfully upon clearing five foot one inch mark above ground level!
