Western Illinois University faced a setback on Sunday as they lost 3-1 to the Lindenwood Lions, failing to secure a three-game sweep. This defeat leaves Western Illinois with a record of 10-29 for the season and 5-12 in Ohio Valley play.
The Leathernecks struggled offensively, managing only four hits throughout the game. Adam Juran started with an infield single, but further hits were scarce. The pitching staff, however, continued their strong performance from Saturday's games.
Kyle Rosenfeld made his third start in seven days, pitching four innings and striking out three batters. He managed to keep the game scoreless after one inning despite a two-out double by Lindenwood. However, Lindenwood took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Rosenfeld maintained control in the third inning, allowing WIU's offense an opportunity to level the score.
In the fourth inning, WIU tied the game at 1-1. Kyree Alexander initiated with a single and advanced to second base by stealing it. Liam Bushey then hit a single down the left field line, enabling Alexander to score.
Lindenwood responded in the fifth inning by scoring two more runs and securing their 3-1 victory.
Adam Juran, Kyree Alexander, Liam Bushey, and Max Slavens each contributed singles for WIU during Sunday's match. Trevor Leon reached base twice through walks. Pitchers Kyle Rosenfeld and Mason Telford both completed four innings each; Rosenfeld struck out three while Telford did not allow any runs.
Looking ahead, Western Illinois has five games scheduled this week. They will host Bradley at Alfred D. Boyer Stadium on Tuesday before traveling to face Illinois State on Wednesday. The week concludes with alumni weekend against Little Rock at home.
