Western Illinois University is preparing for its final homestand of the season, which will include a senior day ceremony to honor five seniors who have contributed significantly to the Leatherneck baseball program. Max Slavens, J.R. Heavilin, Adam Juran, Caden Kratz, and Kyle Rosenfeld will be recognized for their efforts both on the field and in the community.

The Leathernecks are currently two games behind Eastern Illinois for the eighth spot in the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) tournament. Despite holding tiebreaker wins over Lindenwood and UT Martin, Western Illinois needs to gain ground as Eastern Illinois holds the tiebreaker against them.

Jason Buhl has been named OVC Pitcher of the Week following an impressive performance where he pitched a complete game against Lindenwood, allowing just one run over nine innings. This achievement marks Western Illinois' first such recognition since joining the OVC.

The Leatherneck pitching staff delivered strong performances during their series against Lindenwood, highlighted by Buhl's complete game and subsequent shutouts by Tyler Kapraun and Caden Kratz. Over three games, they allowed only four runs—the fewest since 2014.

In a dramatic finish against SIUE, Cesar Franco hit a decisive home run that secured a 7-6 victory for Western Illinois after trailing 6-4 in the ninth inning.

Liam Bushey and J.R. Heavilin have been key offensive players recently; Bushey tied several program records while Heavilin reached base consistently throughout recent games.

Adam Juran achieved his 100th career hit with a double over the weekend. The team continues its streak of close victories with all six wins this season decided by two runs or fewer.

Catchers Adam Juran and Brock Lummus contributed significantly during their series against UT Martin. Lummus was instrumental in securing a come-from-behind win with crucial hits and defensive plays.

Caden Kratz has excelled as a closer with six saves this season, ranking third nationally in NCAA baseball.

Western Illinois celebrated its first win over an in-state school this year with a narrow victory against SIUE. The team also notched its first power-five win since 2009 earlier this season against Cincinnati.

Head Coach Terry Davis recorded his first win leading Western Illinois when they defeated Austin Peay at the start of his tenure—a milestone not achieved by any coach since 1955.

As part of celebrating its history, Western Illinois Baseball will honor its Hall of Fame 1974 team during this anniversary year while donning new uniforms funded through donations from alumni commemorating past achievements like reaching NCAA regional tournaments.
