Western Illinois University's volleyball team experienced a setback as they lost to Morehead State in four sets at Western Hall, ending their four-match home winning streak. Keyana Cruse led the match with 20 kills, while Brittany Wulf followed with nine. Karli Wenzel achieved a match-high 20 digs, advancing her career total to over 1,800 and placing her second in the program's history for career digs.
The Leathernecks had a slow start against Morehead State, trailing 12-6 early in the first set and eventually losing it 25-16. In the second set, WIU initially led 8-2 with contributions from Cruse and Grace Ulatowski. However, Morehead State staged a comeback with a 13-2 run to reach set point at 24-20. Despite WIU's efforts to tie at 24-24, the Eagles secured the set at 26-24.
WIU gained momentum in the third set with a decisive 6-0 run that helped them win it 25-17. The fourth set was closely contested, but Morehead State clinched victory with a late surge, taking the set 26-24 and winning the match three sets to one.
The Leathernecks' final home game of the season is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m., marking Senior Day for the team.
