McDonough County Board Law & Legal Committee met Oct. 7.

The Law & Legal Committee held its monthly meeting on Monday, October 7, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was held at the McDonough County Courthouse, 3rd Floor, Law Library. Committee Members present included Committee Chair Joe Erlandson, Vice Chair Ken Durkin, Eric Blakeley, Letha Clark, Michael Kirby, and Terra Litchfield. Members Eric Chapman and Travis Hiel were absent. Other persons in attendance were Terry Thompson, Patrick Stout, Ric Smart, Deborah Cousins, Chief Deputy Adam Cremer, County Chair Scott Schwerer, and Deputy Clerk Deanna Bisby.
Chair Erlandson called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Review & Approve September 9, 2024 Minutes
Member Durkin moved with a second by Member Blakeley to approve the minutes as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.
Waste Management Update
Reports received and filed.
Tri-County Recycling
No report.
Veteran’s Assistance and Van Report
Ric Smart gave the report. Six Veterans were given assistance in September. Total assistance amounted to $1,021.00.
Sheriff’s Report
Chief Deputy Cremer gave the report. Cremer informed the Committee that they have hired a new jail administrator.
Assessor’s Office Update
Assessor Deborah Cousins gave the report.
Discuss Solar Ordinance
A discussion was held regarding a solar ordinance for the County. The fee schedule was discussed and deemed to be okay by the Board, the zoning boundaries were also discussed.
Claims Review and Approval
Member Clark moved with a second by Member Litchfield to approve the claims as submitted. Motion carried on a voice vote.

County Board Chair Comments
County Chair Schwerer discussed a lawsuit regarding Evan Schmalshof that had been announced on Channel 10’s news report.

Member Litchfield moved with a second by Member Blakeley to adjourn the meeting at 7:52 p.m. Motion carried on a voice vote.
