Macomb, Ill - The Western Illinois University (WIU) Men's Basketball team was defeated by Green Bay in their home opener with a final score of 87-73. The Leathernecks had a slow start, trailing 18-7 early in the first half after Green Bay hit three three-pointers within the first five minutes. Green Bay extended their lead later in the half with a 13-6 run, which included scoring three baskets in the paint, bringing the score to 31-16. By halftime, Green Bay led WIU by 21 points with a score of 47-26.

In the second half, WIU showed determination by outscoring Green Bay 47-40. Ryan Myers contributed significantly to this effort by scoring 26 points and hitting five out of six from beyond the arc. Sean Smith added support with 21 points and four rebounds over his 36 minutes on the court. Tay Knox made an impact on rebounding with 12 boards, aiding Western Illinois in outrebounding Green Bay 40-35. The Leathernecks capitalized on offensive rebounds to generate second-chance opportunities that resulted in 16 points. However, WIU struggled at the free throw line as they shot under 40% (7-of-18). Their defense forced eight turnovers that translated into nine points during the second half.

Looking ahead, WIU will host Central Arkansas on Saturday with tip-off scheduled for 1 p.m.
