The Western Illinois University (WIU) Baseball team has announced the addition of two new recruits for their 2025 class. On National Signing Day, the Leathernecks secured commitments from Jacob Golson, a utility player and right-handed pitcher from Frankfort, Kentucky, and Cole Sims, an outfielder and utility player from Perryville, Kentucky.

Cole Sims is transferring from Frontier Community College where he achieved a batting average of .354 and a slugging percentage of .560 in his freshman season. He hit four home runs, 14 doubles, five triples, and stole 16 bases. Previously, he played club baseball with KBC Prime and attended Boyle County High School where he was part of three state championship-winning football teams. Regarding his decision to join WIU, Sims said it "was a perfect fit for me in every way."

Jacob Golson comes from Franklin County High School where he earned recognition on the Region 11 All-Tournament Team and was named Varsity MVP during his junior year. He also received accolades as Varsity's best relief pitcher and was included in the KHSAA Academic All-State Team. In his sophomore year, Golson was named to the KHSAA District 41 All Tournament Team and won the Varsity Big Slugger Award. His club baseball experience includes playing for the Kentucky Rockers (2015-2020), Kentucky Baseball Club (2021-2023), and Commonwealth Baseball Club in 2024. Golson explained his choice to attend WIU by saying: "I chose WIU because after meeting the coaching staff I was very excited about the player development and what they are building in the baseball program." He plans to graduate in May 2025.
