Western Illinois University's men's basketball team achieved a narrow victory against South Alabama, winning 64-63 at the Mitchell Center in Mobile, Alabama. The Leathernecks excelled in the first half, scoring 41 points with a strong performance from beyond the arc. They made 11 of their 18 three-point attempts during this period. Ryan Myers and Marko Maletic each contributed four three-pointers, while Julius Rollins and Sean Smith added to the tally.

In the second half, WIU's offensive output slowed to just 23 points, but their defense held firm. Myers and Maletic led the team with 20 points each, both converting six three-pointers throughout the game. Rollins also played a key role with 13 points and six rebounds. Smith was instrumental as well, leading with 13 assists alongside five points and five rebounds.

The Leathernecks' defensive efforts included three blocks and four steals. Tay Knox was effective on the boards with seven rebounds, which helped limit South Alabama's second-chance opportunities. The team's bench contributed significantly by adding 20 points to their total score.

The game tightened in the second half as South Alabama mounted a comeback. However, Western Illinois managed to maintain their lead in crucial moments. With just seconds remaining, Ryan Myers secured two free throws that put WIU ahead by three points. Although South Alabama hit a final three-pointer as time expired, it wasn't enough to overcome WIU's lead.

Overall, WIU made 15 out of 40 three-point attempts compared to South Alabama's five successful shots from beyond the arc out of 26 tries.

This victory brings Western Illinois' record to 4-3 for the season. They are set to play another game at the Mitchell Center against Incarnate Word tomorrow night at 5 p.m.
