Western Illinois concludes indoor track season at OVC Championships

The Western Illinois University (WIU) Track and Field team concluded their indoor season at the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Championships in Indianapolis, Indiana. The team earned a total of 47 points, with notable performances including a podium finish and broken records.

Emma Ponx secured a bronze medal for WIU in the Pole Vault event with a vault of 3.85 meters. Dana Surwillo also performed well, finishing fourth with the same height.

In the 800-meter qualifiers, Mohammed Baghati achieved a personal best time of 1:53.67, placing him in the top five and securing his spot in the finals. Richard Brown also competed but did not qualify for the finals despite finishing in the top ten with a time of 1:54.46.

Robert Perry set a new personal record and became WIU's fourth all-time school record holder in the 5000-meter race, finishing seventh overall with a time of 14:57.61. Logan Beckmier finished fourth overall in the same race with a time of 14:47.56. Both athletes also achieved top ten finishes in the 3000-meter race.

Sean Hudspath recorded a season-best time of 4:18.09 to earn a top ten finish in the mile event.

Lydia Bennett set a new personal best in the 800-meter qualifiers with her time of 2:21.86, placing her in the top ten as well. Madison Trevena finished eighth overall in the 3000-meter race with her performance timed at 10:16.64.

Jolena Site competed impressively across both short-distance events; she clocked at 57.41 seconds during her run in the women's 400 meters, marking herself as tenth on WIU’s all-time list for this event while simultaneously achieving an all-time school record status by posting another remarkable timing—24.95 seconds—in women’s two hundred meter dash category.

The Leathernecks will begin their outdoor season on March 28 at Illinois State University.
