The Western Illinois Women's Basketball team concluded their regular season with a loss against Tennessee Tech, falling 68-51 on Thursday night at the Eblen Center. Mia Nicastro led Western Illinois with 23 points, eight rebounds, three steals, and two blocks. She was the only player from her team to score in double figures, making 9-of-16 shots from the field and hitting a three-pointer.

The Leathernecks ended their regular season with a record of 14-15 overall and 8-12 in the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC). They struggled offensively throughout the game, shooting just 38.5% from the field and 18.2% from beyond the arc. The team committed 17 turnovers, which resulted in Tennessee Tech scoring 16 points.

Western Illinois had a slow start, scoring only 11 points in the first quarter and adding another 14 in the second quarter. At halftime, they trailed Tennessee Tech by eight points with a score of 33-25. Their shooting difficulties continued as they went just 1-of-6 from three-point range in the first half.

Despite offensive challenges, Western Illinois showed strong defensive efforts. Madison Davis contributed by tying for a team-high eight rebounds while also providing four assists and blocking one shot. In the third quarter, Addi Brownfield's defensive play helped keep Western Illinois competitive; she finished with three steals and six rebounds.

Heading into the fourth quarter, Tennessee Tech maintained their lead at 50-38. Although Western Illinois fought hard until the end, they could not close the gap further. The Leathernecks recorded a total of 36 rebounds, six blocks, and eight steals during the game.

With their regular season complete, Western Illinois will now focus on preparing for the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament where they are set to face UT Martin on Wednesday at 3 PM.
