The Western Illinois University (WIU) Track and Field team began their outdoor season with notable achievements at the Redbird Challenge in Bloomington, Ill. The team showed strength in various events, garnering multiple podium positions.
Mya Hippolyte showcased her speed, securing second place in the 100-meter sprint with a time of 11.92 seconds. She later surpassed this performance by taking first place in the 200 meter race, clocking 24.73 seconds.
In the 110 meter hurdle, Matthew Thomas achieved a top-five finish, placing fourth with a time of 16.07 seconds. In the 400-meter race, Edward Clark set a personal best of 50.27 seconds, earning fourth place, while Richard Brown followed in fifth with 50.54 seconds. Robert Perry completed the individual track events with a top-10 finish in the 1500 meter event, recording a time of 4:03.88 for 10th place.
The men's 4x400 meter relay team, composed of Richard Brown, Edward Clark, Eason Comer, and Sean Hudspath, secured third place with a time of 3:26.57.
In field events, Rayvon Wright achieved a personal best in the high jump, clearing 1.95 meters to finish fifth. Garrison Murray also placed in the top 10, clearing 1.90 meters for seventh place.
Cage Davidson excelled in the long jump with a leap of 6.91 meters, earning second place. Arnie Grunert returned to pole vault with a second-place finish, vaulting 5.17 meters.
In the triple jump, Bria Armstrong finished fourth with a jump of 11.21 meters. During the pole vault event, Dana Surwillo, Emma Ponx, and Colleen Johnson all placed in the top 10. Ponx secured second place with a vault of 3.73 meters, Surwillo finished fifth at 3.58 meters, and Johnson earned ninth with 3.43 meters.
