Western Illinois University Track and Field had a successful outing at the NIU Huskie Classic, achieving multiple victories and personal bests in both track and field events.
In the field events, Cage Davison achieved victory in the men's long jump with a jump of 7.33 meters. His teammate, Toriano Tate, came in second, leaping 7.10 meters. Davison also achieved a personal best in the 100-meter dash, securing third place with a time of 11.05 seconds. In the women's long jump, Brooke Boehm took the top spot with a jump of 5.34 meters.
Matthew Thomas excelled in the pole vault and men's 110-meter hurdles, winning both events. He cleared 4.30 meters in the pole vault and recorded a time of 15.95 seconds in the hurdles.
In the women's pole vault, Western Illinois swept the podium. Emma Ponx and Dana Surwillo finished first and second, both achieving vaults of 3.75 meters, while Colleen Johnson secured third with 3.55 meters. Angel Stanley completed the top four with a vault of 3.35 meters.
Richard Brown was notable on the track, winning the men's 800 meters with a time of 1:53.60. Eason Comer earned a win in the 400-meter dash, clocking a personal best of 54.25. Abby Fleming claimed first place in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 13:21.28.
Bria Armstrong took second in the women's 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.10, while Jolena Site and Nakeita Kessling ended second and fourth in the women's 200-meter dash. Caleb Brown, a freshman, achieved a personal best of 23.12 in the men's 200-meter dash for fifth place.
In other performances, Hannah Steinmeyer finished fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:21.10. Lydia Bennett and Madison Trevena secured the second and third spots in the 1500 meters, with Bennett setting a personal best of 4:48.43. The women's 4x400-meter relay team emerged victorious with a time of 4:24.65.
On the men's side, Rayvon Wright and Garrison Murray finished first and second in the high jump, with Wright clearing 1.91 meters and Murray 1.71 meters. Nino Romeo claimed victory in the javelin throw with a throw of 27.46 meters. In the women's triple jump, Kelsey Hutchins took first place with 11.24 meters, followed by Bria Armstrong in second with 11.14 meters.
Franka Weil-Restrepo achieved a personal best in discus, finishing third with a mark of 32.60 meters. Faith Procopio also claimed third place in the women's 5000 meters with a season-best time of 19:50.06.
The team will next compete at the Cyclone Twilight on May 9 at Iowa State University.
