As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in local government affairs, we at West Central Reporter have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City of Colchester. Our request seeks detailed records concerning businesses registered with the city over the past week. Specifically, we are asking for information that includes the business name, business number, business type, business address, issued date, status, and registered agent name.
This request is made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, and we have asked for the information to be provided in electronic format for ease of access and analysis. As a media organization dedicated to delivering comprehensive news coverage to the public, obtaining these records is crucial for us to hold public institutions accountable and ensure transparency in governmental operations.
Additionally, as members of The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy—a non-profit organization focused on leveraging Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws—we are committed to pulling back the curtain on government actions. This initiative helps inform the American electorate by providing insights into state and federal governmental agencies' activities.
