Western Illinois University’s women’s soccer team will conclude its season with a home match against Southern Indiana on Sunday, October 26, at 1 p.m. in Macomb, Illinois.

In their previous game, the Leathernecks secured a 1-1 draw against UT Martin at Skyhawk Soccer Field. After conceding a goal in the 38th minute, Western Illinois equalized in the 72nd minute when Hattie Mourning scored her first goal of the season, assisted by Claire Brown. The team recorded 12 shots, with 10 coming in the second half. Goalkeepers Lillian Johns and Ariel Bernard combined for 10 saves, with each making five saves in their respective halves.

The upcoming match will also serve as Senior Night for Western Illinois. The program will honor its senior players for their leadership and contributions. "Senior Night honors the leadership, dedication, and contributions of the team's upperclassmen, who have been integral to the program both on and off the field. It's a special opportunity for teammates, coaches, and fans to recognize their hard work and commitment throughout their careers while sending them off with one final chance to leave their mark on the pitch," according to the team.

Freshman Abigail Schilling leads the Leathernecks in goals and points this season, having appeared in every match. Claire Brown and Kayla Turner are tied for second in goals scored on the team, while Hattie Mourning’s recent goal helped the team secure its first tie of the year.

Southern Indiana enters the game with a 6-7-4 record after a recent 2-1 loss to Lindenwood. The team features a balanced attack and solid defense, with several key players contributing to both goals and assists. For Western Illinois, containing Southern Indiana’s offensive threats and capitalizing on scoring opportunities will be important in the season finale.
