Western Illinois University's cross country teams ended their 2025 season with notable performances at the NCAA Midwest Regionals. The event, held on a challenging and hilly course, proved difficult for many athletes, with several competitors from other schools unable to finish. Despite these tough conditions, both the men's and women's teams from Western Illinois achieved significant milestones.

The men's team posted its first team score at an NCAA Regionals since 2018, breaking a 13-year period without such a result. The runners managed the steep terrain and maintained composure throughout the race.

On the women's side, the team scored as a group at the NCAA Regionals for the first time since 2012. Their performance reflected steady improvement during the season and demonstrated their ability to compete consistently even in difficult circumstances.

With these results at regionals, both programs concluded their seasons positively and aim to build on this progress in 2026.

"Overcoming a grueling course and recording their strongest team results in years highlights the growth, determination and momentum the teams built this fall. Western Illinois now turns its attention to carrying this progress into the 2026 campaign."
