Western Illinois University's women's basketball team maintained their undefeated record with a decisive victory over Kansas City, winning 62-43. The Leathernecks displayed strong performance throughout the game, effectively combining shooting accuracy, rebounding strength, and defensive pressure. The team excelled in three-point shooting, converting 8 of 18 attempts, which helped establish an early lead.

Mia Nicastro led the team's efforts with a standout performance, scoring 21 points and securing 11 rebounds to achieve a double-double. Her contributions were significant in both offense and defense within the paint. Raegan McCowan added 14 points to the tally, while Mallory McDermott contributed by making three three-pointers.

Defensively, Western Illinois was persistent, forcing Kansas City into committing 21 turnovers and capitalizing on these errors with fast-break opportunities. They scored 17 transition points compared to Kansas City's six. Additionally, WIU dominated the rebound battle with a total of 47 rebounds against Kansas City's 33.

The bench also played a crucial role for Western Illinois by adding ten points and supporting the starters with valuable minutes. The team recorded ten assists overall, with Allie Meadows leading with four assists and Addi Brownfield along with Kaylen Reed each contributing three assists. WIU's proficiency at the free-throw line was evident as they made 16 out of their 23 attempts.

Looking ahead, Western Illinois will face Missouri Tigers from a power five conference next Friday at Western Hall.
